“Mês” (meh-sh) is the singular Portuguese word for month, while “meses” is the plural (meh-zush). The words are all spelled the same manner, however the pronunciation differs somewhat depending on whether the speaker is speaking European Portuguese or Brazilian Portuguese. Portugal has the most sunshine days of any country in Europe. There are around 3000 sunshine hours each year in the southern areas. Late February is when nature awakens.
The Riviera and the islands are already thronged with surf school students, European visitors, and other adventure seekers in March. April is still wet, but the weather begins to warm up. This is suitable for beach visits as well as excursions and sightseeing. In May, the weather turns quite hot. Rain is still possible, although it is extremely unusual. In terms of temperature, June is the most pleasant month.
